"We received our custom lamp shade and
it looks beautiful! The workmanship is very impressive and both my
husband and I thought it was just right. I love the layered chiffon and
the black fringe, too. It really makes the elegant bridge lamp look
even more beautiful. The cream lace is so visually gripping, and you
did such a great job sewing in the lining. We've wanted a lamp shade
for so long and we feel really lucky to have found such a good
designer!"

How to Determine the Size:
Correct proportion is extremely important. The lamp shade height should be the same or a little shorter than the lamp base height including fringe or beads. The circumference of the bottom of the shade should be about 2 1/2 times the circumference of the lamp base. A general rule of thumb determining the size of the shade is:
Petite frames are for very small lamps
Small frames fit 1.5 feet lamp bases
Medium frames fit 2 foot lamp bases
Large frames fit floor lamps or very large table lamps
The finished shade, including fringe, should always cover the socket at eye level. A taller harp or “shade riser” can increase the height of the lamp to achieve proper proportion. A good idea is to email Candy with your lamp picture and dimensions.
How to Determine the Shape:
Choose a shade shape similar to your lamp base. Curved shades with curved lamps, angular shades with angular lamps. Keep the style in mind such as Victorian, oriental, traditional, etc.

How to Choose the Color:
Today, anything goes! Like art, coloring and style are a matter of personal choice. An extraordinary lamp shade may make a statement or blend beautifully into your overall color and lighting scheme. If your walls are white, consider an accent color for your lamp shade that will stand out against the light background. Look at the pictures in our online shopping catalog to see how photographers choose contrasting colors to make the lamp appealing. Of course, you probably won't want black walls but you get the idea.
How to Choose the Fitter:
The lamp determines what type of "fitter" you will need. A “fitter” is that hole in the middle of the top of the frame that holds the shade to the lamp. A “Washer fitting” is the most common. It's that little hole at the top of the shade that sits on the harp. The small piece you screw to the top of the harp to keep the shade from slipping is called the “finial”. Finish your new shade with a beautiful finial.
A “Bulb Clip” attaches directly to a regular light bulb when there is no harp, usually on a small table lamp. A harp can be attached to the lamp to change it from a “Bulb Clip” to a “Washer Fitting”.
An “Uno” fitter has a big threaded hole normally used with a threaded bridge lamp socket. An “Uno” fitter can be changed to a “Washer” fitter with a special adapter.
Some floor lamps have a bowl that diffuses the light from the bulb. These require a frame that has wires at the top of the frame with those little humps that keep the shade from slipping on the diffuser bowl. They are called "reflector" wires or sometimes "Tri-Lite" frames and fit 8" or 10" bowls. They also have a "Washer" fitter so they can sit on a harp.
